Job Opportunity: Junior Environmental Specialist – 4-month Co-op– Fulltime – Edmonton, AB.
Fiera Biological is a multi-disciplinary environmental consulting firm that specializes in wildlife research and management, ecological and biological field assessments, and ecological land-use policy and planning. Our multidisciplinary team is comprised of ecologists, environmental policy specialists, earth scientists, hydrologists, and GIS/Remote Sensing specialists, who all strive to provide our clients with the information and tools necessary to maintain healthy and resilient social and ecological systems. Fiera Biological is an industry leader in natural area management and conservation planning in Alberta. We specialize in the selection, development, and application of systematic, objective, and repeatable criteria to inform land-use planning at multiple spatial scales, with a focus on integrating robust scientific principles about natural resource management into land use policy and planning decisions.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual who is interested in working on a variety of projects, including grassland and prairie wetland studies, and studies related to other conservation issues in Alberta. The successful candidate can expect exposure to a wide range of applied environmental assessment and management projects, as well as a variety of research & development initiatives. The position will offer an opportunity to work in both an office and field setting.
The majority of work will occur during a typical workweek (Monday to Friday); however, during fieldwork sessions, flexibility in the days that are worked may be required. During fieldwork, personnel can expect to work shifts of 5 days on and 2 days off, or 10 days on and 4 days off.
Wage: $17.00/hour, 40 hour week, full time.

Starting Date: May 1, 2019 (negotiable)
End Date: August 30th, 2019 (negotiable).
Location: Our office is in Edmonton, Alberta. Fieldwork may occur anywhere in western Canada, but the majority of fieldwork is expected occur in central and northern Alberta.
- Bachelor or graduate degree in the natural sciences (e.g., biology, botany, ecology, or related sub-discipline).
- Excellent writing ability and basic GIS skills.
- A minimum of one season of experience collecting data in the field.
- Preference may be given to applicants with vegetation identification skills, and in particular, wetland and grassland vegetation.
- Current certifications in standard first aid, wildlife awareness, and WHMIS 2015.
